Our mission is to enable girls and young women to develop and attain their full potential as responsible citizens of the country.

Our aims is to provide a programme embracing  wide range of activities and interesting hobbies while enjoyable, in themselves have an underlying educational purpose, namely to develop individual character based on the values n the Promise and Law.

As a member of the world’s largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women,  World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), we follow the same principles laid by the founder.

OUR PROGRAM

As a member of Star Group, Little maid pack, a Guide Company and Service Guide Unit, the girls learns to work with others, thus gaining an understanding of personal relationships through teamwork. Girls are given opportunities to develop initiative and leadership qualities which will prepare them to take responsibility in the community, acquire wide range of skills, be self reliant and disciplined.

Our programs provide opportunity for the girls to develop physical fitness, healthy habits, character, life skills, fellowship and a sense of service.

The programs of the MGGA are aligned with the WAGGGS  Policy and Guidelines on Education Program Development in line with the Movement’s Girl Guide/ Girl Scout Method, namely; commitment through the Promise and the Law, the Patrol System, learning by doing, progressive self development, symbolism, active cooperation between youth and adults, outdoor activities, and service in the community.

Why girls only?

We believe strongly that girls are best served by a program designed specifically for Guides, and facilitated by women. Girl Guides provides girls and women with the opportunity to experience leadership and management positions from a young age.

In Guiding, females do it all and do not feel the pressure society traditionally places on them to look to males for decision-making. Women and girls take positions of leadership, use their talents and abilities in planning and policy-making, and are encouraged to take these skills into their lives. This allows them to build their self-esteem.

Guides provide a unique girl-only environment, vital for personal and social development. It's a safe, inclusive space where girls can be comfortable just being themselves. Guiding offers a unique opportunity for girls to acquire leadership skills, to become self-reliant, to enjoy the friendship of other women and girls, and to develop a sense of well-being and self-worth.

There is plenty of research to show that girls and boys realise a greater degree of their potential if they spend part of their time in a single-sex environment.

HISTORY OF GUDING IN MALDIVES

Old Guides

Guiding began in the Maldives on 31st December 1951 during the First Democratic regime. The guides were formed for the first Presidency. However Guides were seen in different formal occasions a protocol for the Presidents and different dignitaries visiting the country. But Guiding ceased to exist after an year or so.

We became an associate member of WAGGGS on 4th July 1996 and became a full member on 2nd July 1999. Hence, we celebrate our  membership day on 2nd July.

We celebrated our Golden Jubilee in 2001.

With ten million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from 145 countries across the world, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is the largest voluntary movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world.

WAGGGS was formed in 1928 by Lord Baden Powell n order to establish contact with countires where there is Guiding.

The World Association supports girls and young women to develop their full potential as responsible citizens of the world. We focus on leadership development and active citizenship. These are delivered through our innovative global education and community and advocacy programmes.

WAGGGS deliver a well-established, unique values-based approach to non-formal learning, that is international and intergenerational. Girls and young women develop life skills through self-development, challenge and adventure.

There are five WAGGGS’ regions – Africa, Arab, Asia Pacific, Europe and Western Hemisphere and four World Centres: Our Chalet in Switzerland, Sangam in India, Pax Lodge in UK and Our Cabaña in Mexico. The World Centres are residential and training centres where girls and young women develop leadership skills through international programmes and friendships.
